You can report a problem with a bank-owned automated teller machine (ATM). The machine may be located in a bank or free-standing.

Problems include:

  • ATMs that do not properly disclose fees
  • Banks that do not provide adequate safety equipment or lighting around ATMs

  • Agency: New York State Department of Financial Services
  • Division: Consumer Help Unit
  • Phone Number: (877) 226-5697
  • Business Hours: Monday - Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM

New York State does not regulate or supervise non-bank ATMs, such as machines located in delis, shopping malls, and gas stations.

If your account has been compromised by using a non-bank ATM, contact your bank and your local precinct.

To find your local precinct, go to the Police Precincts and PSAs page.
