You can pay for street parking throughout the City on the ParkNYC app, website, or hotline.

Through the ParkNYC payment system you can:

  • Manage your parking sessions on the go
  • Preload funds and set up automatic refills on your account
  • Set up alerts notifying you when your parking session is coming to an end
  • Extend parking sessions

You can register up to five vehicles for a ParkNYC passenger vehicle account. Commercial fleet accounts can have a larger number. Temporary or dealer plates can also be registered.

In your ParkNYC account, you will create and add funds to a parking "wallet" to pay for your parking transactions. You will need to provide your license plate number and contact and payment information.

The wallet:

  • Is preloaded with funds using a credit or debit card
  • Refills automatically by credit or debit card when your account reaches zero or there are not enough funds to complete a parking session
  • Can be filled with a minimum of $25, in $25 increments up to $150 maximum for passenger vehicle accounts
  • Can be filled with a minimum of $100, in increments of $100, up to a $1,000 maximum for commercial fleet accounts

All City Agencies and services that accept credit card payments are certified for compliance with security standards. Your financial transactions are encrypted, and your information is handled according to credit card industry rules and regulations.

After you have created a ParkNYC account and have funds in your parking wallet, you can start a parking session.

The system will walk you through the payment process. You will need to:

  1. Provide the zone number for the side of the street where you are parking.
  2. Select the license plate number of the vehicle you are parking.
  3. Select the amount of time you want to park.

Make sure that your license plate and zone number information are correct before beginning a parking session, and complete your transaction as soon as you exit your vehicle to avoid a parking violation. If you have multiple vehicles registered on your account, be sure to select the correct plate number for each session. You can receive a violation for using the incorrect license plate number.

Proof of Payment

Paper meter receipts are not issued when using the ParkNYC app. Enforcement officers use your license plate and zone numbers to find out if you have a valid parking session. Make sure that your license plate and zone number information are correct before beginning a parking session and complete your transaction as soon as you exit your vehicle to avoid a parking violation.

You can view your parking session account history on the ParkNYC app or at ParkNYC.org.

Parking meters accept payment 1 hour before meter regulations begin. In areas that offer mobile payment for parking, you may also pay ahead using the ParkNYC app or a web browser.

To pay ahead at a meter, you can purchase a receipt 1 hour before meter regulations begin and pay only for the time you park during hours when parking meter regulations are in effect.

For example:

If meter regulations begin at 9 AM, you can purchase a receipt as early as 8 AM to pay for parking from 9 AM onward in accordance with the parking and meter regulations at the location where you want to park.

If you try to pay ahead during off hours, your payment will be rejected. The meter will display a "Meter Off, Read Posted Signs" message.

To pay ahead using the ParkNYC app or a web browser, select "max" time or select the amount of time until meter regulations begin.

For example:

If you arrive at a parking location at 8:40 AM and meter regulations begin at 9 AM with a 1-hour time limit, you can purchase a "max" time session in the Park NYC app. You will be given 1 hour and 20 minutes of parking, but will only pay for 1 hour of parking from 9 AM to 10 AM. By selecting one hour of parking, your session will end at 9:40 AM, but you will only pay for 40 minutes of parking time from 9 AM to 9:40 AM.

You must observe all other parking regulations, like street cleaning rules, that are in effect before meter regulations begin.

A parking session is limited to the time limits displayed on posted signs for that zone, and the app works under the same hours of operation as the meters.

If you have purchased the maximum time allowed for the parking zone, you cannot extend your parking session or use the ParkNYC app again in the same zone for 30 minutes. This is to discourage overstaying time limits.

If you purchase a parking session through ParkNYC that is shorter than the maximum time limit for the parking zone, you have the option of extending your time before your current parking session ends. You can extend your time only up to the maximum time limit for the parking zone.

You may not be able to extend if you are outside of the zone's posted time limits or due to a posted parking restriction, because the app works during the same times as the meters.

If you choose to park in a space for longer than the posted limit, whether paid or not, you can be issued a summons by parking enforcement officers.

You can view and manage your active parking session on the ParkNYC app or at ParkNYC.org. A countdown clock will show how much time you have left on your parking session. You can also set up to receive notifications through the app, by text, or by email that will tell you how much time you have left and give you any available time extension options.

You can have messages delivered by app, text, or email 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 minutes before your parking session ends.

If you are using the ParkNYC app, you can adjust your notification preferences in the app. If you are using the ParkNYC hotline to pay for a parking session, you must set your preferences when you first sign up online.

You must agree to receive text messages regarding parking transactions. ParkNYC does not charge for text messages sent to you, but your wireless carrier's standard message and data rates may apply.

You cannot cancel a parking session once it has been confirmed and started. Refunds are not available for unused parking session time. You can dispute a payment transaction or request a refund for unused funds in your wallet.

Each side of the street on each block has a unique zone number associated with it. Parking zone numbers are displayed on parking meters, on ParkNYC street signs at the end of each individual block, and on the map of the ParkNYC app.

Before you begin a ParkNYC parking session, you must use the zone number on the side of the street where your vehicle is parked. If you are not able to identify the zone number, you must pay at the meter.

You can't change a zone number once your parking session begins. If you move your vehicle, you must start a new parking session using the new zone number, even if the parking rate is the same.

During each transaction, please review all screens and prompts and confirm your session details, including the correct zone number, before formally starting the parking session. You must check the signs, restrictions, and rates in effect in order to avoid a summons. No exceptions will be made for a driver's error.

Downloading the ParkNYC app is free, and there are no fees for using the mobile payment system.

Hourly parking rates and times are the same whether you are using ParkNYC or paying at the parking meter. The ParkNYC app will offer the same amounts of time and pricing as the parking meter in the same zone. You can check the amount, duration, and time periods for parking on signs on each block.

Drivers have a 5-minute grace period for parking meter, ParkNYC, and alternate side parking zones. The law gives drivers an extra 5 minutes past the expired time on the parking meter receipt, ParkNYC parking session, or alternate side parking sign. During the grace period, parking tickets cannot be issued.

The mobile app needs a good cellular or Wi-Fi signal to operate. If your wireless device does not get a Wi-Fi or cellular connection, or if cellular or Wi-Fi service is not available in the area, you may not be able to create or extend a parking session.

If you are having trouble paying for parking using the ParkNYC app, you must pay using a parking meter located on the same block or the next block.

You can report a problem with the ParkNYC mobile app or website.
