Farmers markets and greenmarkets in New York City provide an opportunity to buy fresh and affordable produce while supporting regional farmers. NYC Health + Hospitals has farmers markets at some of the City's hospitals.

Most farmers markets accept SNAP benefits (EBT) and all accept Health Bucks coupons.

There are free nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations available at select farmers markets from July through November.

These workshops provide adults with information about preparing fresh and healthy meals and are available in multiple languages.

Participants who are 18 years and older will receive a $2 Health Buck coupon for attending. Health Bucks are $2 coupons that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at all NYC farmers markets.

The New York State Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides coupons for low-income older adults (seniors).

The coupons can be exchanged for locally grown fruit and vegetables at participating farmers markets and stands in New York City.

Recipients of SNAP Benefits

For every $2 spent at farmers markets using SNAP on an EBT card, you can get $2 in Health Bucks up to $10 per day. Health Bucks are available year-round at NYC farmers markets that accept EBT.

Community and Faith-Based Organizations

Organizations can receive free Health Bucks to distribute to community members as an incentive to participate in nutrition education and other health-related activities.

New Yorkers who participate in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, can get a box of locally grown farm fresh fruits and vegetables for up to half off the full box price.

Farm Boxes are pre-assembled boxes of fresh produce procured from local and regional farmers.  Each box typically contains 6-10 items of fresh, high-quality produce and they must be pre-ordered one week in advance.

How it works

  1. Visit a participating Half Off Farm Box site
  2. Pre-order your farm box one week in advance
  3. Receive half off your farm box when you swipe your EBT card
  4. Return the following week to pick up your box of farm fresh produce
