You can make a complaint about a vendor on a City street or sidewalk that is operating:

  • Without a license (non-food vendor only)
  • In a restricted area (non-food or food vendor)

You can make a complaint about businesses that sell merchandise or offer services from a booth or stand at a street fair in New York City. This does not include food vendors.

Your complaint should include:

  • The vendor's exact location
  • The vendor’s Consumer Affairs license number or Health license number (if a food vendor)
  • Date and time of the incident
  • A receipt with the name and address of the business (needed for overcharge complaints)

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) cannot handle your complaint without this information.

What Happens Next

If you provide an email address with your Service Request, you will receive a notification by email. You may also be emailed a complaint form, which you must complete and return. Be sure to check your spam folder in addition to your inbox.

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection does not accept reports of rude employee behavior. You should report this type of complaint to the business.
