Indoor Pools

Beginning September 30, 2020, all New York City pools can reopen. Pool operators must limit the capacity of patrons at the bathing establishment to 33% of the normal operating capacity.

To report a bathing establishment violating this rule, go to the Pool or Sauna Complaint page.

Department of Parks and Recreation Pools

  • All outdoor pools have closed for the Summer 2020 season and will reopen on May 29, 2021.
  • Recreation centers and indoor pools will remain closed to the general public until further notice to provide COVID-19 related services as well as free childcare options for children who are scheduled for blended learning.

You can get information about free fitness and low-cost fitness classes and programs.

Through Shape Up NYC, the Department of Parks and Recreation offers free fitness classes every week at recreation centers and other locations across the five boroughs.

Expert fitness instructors teach a variety of classes including:

  • Aerobics
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Zumba

No preregistration is required and walk-ins are welcome.
