New York State has imposed a new Congestion surcharge for some vehicles that charge to transport people for trips that both begin and end in New York State and that begin in, end in, or pass through Manhattan south of (but not including) 96th Street.

Collection of the surcharge officially began at 12:01 AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019.

The surcharge applies to:

• Taxis
• Green cabs
• Limousines
• Black cars
• Livery vehicles (also known as community cars)
• Rideshare/transportation network company vehicles
• Pool vehicles

The surcharge does not apply to transportation in connection with funerals, or in buses, ambulances, ambulettes, or MTA transportation.

In general, the surcharge is:

• $2.50 per trip when the transportation is provided by a medallion taxicab vehicle
• $2.75 for each for-hire transportation trip in a vehicle that is not a medallion taxicab or a pool vehicle
• 75 cents per pool trip
