Monday, September 6th is Labor Day.

All government offices will be closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Social Security offices
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Grab and go summer meal distribution will not be available. GetFoodNYC emergency home food deliveries will continue.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

You do not have to pay the parking meter.

No stopping, no standing, and no parking regulations are suspended, except where those regulations are in effect anytime or seven days a week.

All NYC public schools, the P311 (Parent Support Hotline), and Family Welcome Centers (enrollment centers) are closed on Monday, September 6th.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Ida, the Department of Sanitation will have regular trash and recycling collection on Monday, September 6 despite the Labor Day holiday.

Residents who normally have collections on Mondays may place their material at the curb between 4 PM and midnight on Sunday, September 5 as usual for collection beginning on Monday. 

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed for the entire Labor Day weekend (Saturday, September 4th through Monday, September 6th).
